Our Curriculum


Training Choir

To learn the fundamentals of reading and singing choral music, including the following skills:

  • Be able to sing in tune in a group
  • Be able to sing a major scale alone and in a group
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Kodaly hand signs
  • Be able to sing major triads and arpeggios
  • Recognize and demonstrate basic rhythmic notes and rests
  • Recognize and understand “meter”
  • Sight-read simple melodies
  • Recognize and name basic musical symbols
  • Begin to demonstrate proper CSCC vocal tone (Correct CSCC vocal tone is well-supported with free, flexible breath.  Vowels are tall and round.  Consonants are crisp and clear.  The sound is mature and warm with a bright resonance.  Each group aims for a sound that is “the next level up” in maturity.)

To learn various styles of music in unison and harmony

To develop a sense of ensemble and working with others

To develop basic rehearsal and performance skills (i.e.:  focused attention, standing still, watching/keeping eyes on the director, lining up, not talking to neighbors, etc.)

To learn the basics of choreography and movement

To understand the text of each song and the emotions that should be conveyed, and be able to express that emotion visually as well as musically

To develop a sense of pride, commitment and responsibility to the group

To develop good stage presence (i.e.:  appropriate facial expression, stage direction, movement, etc.)

To demonstrate respect for self and others

To learn and demonstrate professional behavior

To instill respect for the performing arts and uphold their value

 

SPRINGS SINGERS GOALS
(Formerly Sunrise Signers)
Concert Choir

To be proficient in all skills of Sunrise Singers, plus continue building musicianship in the following areas:

  • Be able to consistently sing in tune alone and in a group
  • Be able to sing a chromatic and natural minor scale
  • Recognize and demonstrate more complex rhythms
  • Recognize and understand more complex meters
  • Sight-read more complex melodies
  • Recognize tempo, articulation and expression notation
  • Be able to name the notes of the treble clef
  • Continue to demonstrate proper CSCC vocal tone (Correct CSCC vocal tone is well-supported with free, flexible breath.  Vowels are tall and round.  Consonants are crisp and clear.  The sound is mature and warm with a bright resonance.  Each group aims for a sound that is “the next level up” in maturity.)

To perform a wide range of styles of music in unison, 2, 3 & 4 part harmony

To challenge members musically and educationally with quality repertoire

To develop a sense of ensemble and working with others

To include choreography and movement as part of the repertoire

To understand the text of each song and the emotions that should be conveyed, and be able to express that emotion visually as well as musically

To develop a sense of pride, commitment and responsibility to the group

To continue to develop good stage presence (i.e.: appropriate facial expression, stage direction, movement, etc.)

To demonstrate respect for self and others

To demonstrate professional behavior

To instill respect for the performing arts and uphold their value

 

PIKES PEAK SINGER GOALS
Touring Choir of national and international scope

To be proficient in all skills of Springs Singers, plus continue building musicianship in the following areas:

  • Be able to sing in tune alone and in a group
  • Be able to sing melodic and harmonic minor scales
  • Be able to sing major, minor, diminished and augmented triads
  • Execute more complex rhythmic patterns
  • Recognize and understand more complex meters
  • Sight-read more complex melodies
  • Be able to name the notes of the bass clef
  • Continue to demonstrate proper CSCC vocal tone (Correct CSCC vocal tone is well-supported with free, flexible breath.  Vowels are tall and round.  Consonants are crisp and clear.  The sound is mature and warm with a bright resonance.  Each group aims for a sound that is “the next level up” in maturity.)

To challenge members musically and educationally with quality repertoire in a wide variety of styles    

To develop a sense of ensemble and working with others

To include choreography and movement as part of the repertoire

To understand the text of each song and the emotions that should be conveyed, and be able to express that emotion visually as well as musically

To develop a sense of pride in the group and build a cohesive ensemble

At this level, each Pikes Peak Singer must demonstrate a high level of personal commitment, responsibility and follow-through

To continue to develop poise, stage presence, confidence and performance sophistication

To demonstrate respect for self and others

To demonstrate professional behavior

To instill respect for the performing arts and uphold their value

 

SUMMIT ENSEMBLE GOALS
Touring SATB Choir of national and international scope

To further enhance music skills with a high mastery level of performance

To challenge members musically and educationally with quality repertoire in a wide variety of styles

To continue to develop correct CSCC vocal production in each singer which will produce a balanced mixed choral ensemble (Correct CSCC vocal tone is well-supported with free, flexible breath.  Vowels are tall and round.  Consonants are crisp and clear.  The sound is mature and warm with a bright resonance.  Each group aims for a sound that is “the next level up” in maturity.)

To develop and maintain a sense of pride in the group and build a cohesive ensemble

At this level, each Summit Ensemble member must demonstrate a high level of personal commitment, responsibility and follow-through

To further develop poise, stage presence, confidence and performance sophistication to include dramatic expression and choreography

To nurture a sense of pride and confidence in each member

To demonstrate respect for self and others

To demonstrate professional behavior

To instill respect for the performing arts and uphold their value
