Take nearly 200 guys, age 8 – 18, put them on stage in brightly colored t-shirts, add some classic tunes – “From Barbershop to Old Time Rock & Roll”, a touch of choreography, a band and a bit of “guys rule” attitude and what do you have? The 2012 Sing-Raise the Roof Boychoir in concert.
Started in 2001 by the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, the Sing – Raise the Roof Boychoir Festival will take place February 22 – 25, culminating with their concert on the evening of February 25. Participants meet after school for rehearsals for four days, preparing for a concert that has become a standing-room-only event. While the pure energy of nearly 200 guys on stage together is amazing in itself, what is more mind boggling is how these guys, from all corners of the Pikes Peak region, can come together for only four rehearsals, and deliver a concert that almost raises the roof of the hall.
Raise the Roof singers include young men from across the region with talents in many areas including sports, academics, music, and theater. This festival is for any boys who enjoy singing, regardless of whether they plan to be doctors, lawyers, rocket scientists, professional athletes, or even musicians! Registrations are still being accepted for boys and young men interested in participating in the festival. Any guys in grades 3 – 12 are invited to join in the fun of the festival. A teacher recommendation is requested. The registration fee for the Festival is $40. Some financial assistance is available. Call 633-3562 or visit www.kidssing.org to get registration information.
This year one of the special guests will be The Bottom Line, the Children’s Chorale’s premier young men’s chorus. This group is open to young men in grades 9 – 12 and gives guys the opportunity to participate with other young men for a bit longer term than the Raise The Roof Festival. Rehearsals for this group run from January 11 through February 15, and culminate with their participation in the Raise the Roof Festival. The participation fee for The Bottom Line is only $25– so contact us asap to be a part of this amazing group.
“These talented young men come from all over the area, leaving behind the technology that so easily isolates them in today’s world, to focus their energy on one common goal: their love of singing” said Brad Peterson who co-founded the event. “From the first downbeat at the first rehearsal to the final cut-off of the concert, it is amazing and gratifying to see the camaraderie shared and the quality of the musical performance.” Peterson is the Artistic Coordinator for Raise the Roof and directs The Bottom Line and the Men’s Chorus of the festival.
